Honeymoon Safaris Lodge Safaris Mid-range Safaris Safari from Zanzibar

Twelve days is the combination we send most often to couples and families who want wildlife and a real beach, not a token night. The safari half is six park days from Arusha plus a Manyara morning. The island half is five nights, usually Stone Town then the north coast.

You travel with a Super Luxury Safaris’ Guide on the mainland. Lodge and hotel class — camping through high-end — and the domestic flight are locked on the quote.

White sand at Nungwi, Zanzibar

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Tarangire elephants

After breakfast you leave Arusha. In about two hours the farms give way: baobabs, then the gate, then the river. We treat Tarangire as the start of the safari, not a transfer with a short game drive tacked on. The vehicle is a private Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof. The window seat is yours for the whole trip.

Elephants define the park. Dry months pull whole families onto the Tarangire River and into the Silale swamp. Giraffe browse the acacias. Lion lie up in the shade of those same giants. A picnic keeps you inside until the light tilts and the herds walk toward water.

The Super Luxury Safaris’ Guide chooses the quiet track for that week. This is not a convoy run from a distant call centre. The Super Luxury Safaris Team still answers WhatsApp after dinner.

Overnight in the Karatu highlands, in the camping, mid-range, luxury or high-end lodge named on your quote.

Day 2: Karatu to Serengeti National Park

Serengeti

Today the horizon opens. You climb through Iraqw farmland, pause at the Ngorongoro viewpoint, and drop through Naabi onto the Serengeti — a grassland so wide it rearranges how you think about space. The afternoon belongs to the Seronera River: lion on the kopjes, leopard in the sausage trees if the day is kind, zebra and gazelle on the open grass.

This is the moment most guests have been holding in their heads since they booked. We do not rush it. Picnic or a late lodge lunch, then a slower drive so you arrive in camp with the sun still on the plains.

Dinner and overnight in the Serengeti, in the camp or lodge class named on your quote.

Day 3: Full day in Serengeti National Park

Serengeti lion

The point of sleeping in the Serengeti, instead of driving through it, is a day with no long transfer. We leave in the cool, carry a picnic, and stay with whatever the morning offers. Hunt. Crossing of resident herds. A kopje that has a leopard on it if you sit still.

Your own vehicle for the rest of the day. A Super Luxury Safaris’ Guide who would rather you see one pride well than ten animals from a traffic jam. Riverine strips in the dry months; a lean south toward Ndutu from December to March when the calves are on the short grass. A balloon at first light is there if you want it. It is not hidden inside the base package.

Dinner and overnight in the Serengeti, in the camp or lodge class named on your quote.

Day 4: Second full day in Serengeti National Park

Serengeti wildebeest

Go back to a corner you liked. Or push a little north or south if the herds have moved. That is a second full day on the plains, which is when the safari settles, with time to sit with a cat instead of covering kilometres for the sake of a checklist.

Not a loudspeaker in a packed truck: the radio is still your guide’s, the vehicle still private. Many guests choose a balloon, a walking safari where it is legal, or simply a long picnic under a sausage tree.

Dinner and overnight in the Serengeti, in the camp or lodge class named on your quote.

Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Crater

A last dawn on the plains, then you game-drive east toward the crater highlands. The transfer is not empty tarmac — the conservation area still holds giraffe, eland and Maasai herds on the open slopes.

Evening is on the rim or in Karatu, with the caldera below you if the lodge class you chose sits on the edge. Sleep early. Tomorrow is the descent.

Overnight on the Ngorongoro rim or in Karatu, depending on the lodge class you chose.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

Hippos on the crater floor

The morning that sells the northern circuit starts with a drop of roughly 600 metres onto the crater floor while the grass is still cold. Short grass packed with zebra, wildebeest and buffalo. Pools held by hippo. Lion often in the open. Black rhino are never guaranteed — we never pretend they are. This closed caldera is still the fairest chance you will have.

Not a rushed snack at the gate: picnic lunch is on the floor. Climb out with time to wash off the dust. We pace the day so you are still looking, not watching the clock — you will talk about this day for years.

Overnight in the Karatu highlands, in the camping, mid-range, luxury or high-end lodge named on your quote.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha, fly to Zanzibar

Lake Manyara

Do not treat this as an optional extra on the way to the airport. Lake Manyara is a committed morning and a park with a personality of its own: groundwater forest under the Rift escarpment, a soda lake that draws flamingos when the water is right, woodland elephants that feed in the open. Tree-climbing lion use the acacias some seasons; we look, we do not promise.

After the game drive, Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport as your ticket requires. If your flight is too early, we skip the park, we do not charge the fees, and we tell you that before you pay.

We drive you to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport once the Land Cruiser’s work is done. The included domestic flight to Zanzibar is a short hop that turns dust into salt air in under an hour.

Tonight you eat seafood and sleep to the Indian Ocean, not to a generator in camp. A driver meets you on the island and takes you to Stone Town or the north coast, depending on the hotel named on your quote.

Overnight on Zanzibar, in the town or beach hotel named on your quote.

Day 8: Stone Town

Stone Town, Zanzibar

The other Tanzania is Stone Town. Carved doors. The Darajani market. The waterfront fort. Alleys that smell of cloves and the sea. Walk with a local guide; do not get lost in the same three streets every brochure uses.

How the safari half leaves your shoulders: afternoon yours, a rooftop, a coffee, a slow dinner.

Overnight on Zanzibar, in the town or beach hotel named on your quote.

Day 9: Stone Town to the north coast

Dhow sail over Zanzibar

Why people add Zanzibar at all sits here: Nungwi and the north coast, pale sand, a reef you can snorkel, a horizon with nothing on it but dhows. Swim and sleep. Add a Mnemba boat only if you want it. We do not pad the quote with extras you did not ask for.

WhatsApp still reaches the Super Luxury office in Arusha. The island hotel is still on the same itinerary as your Serengeti nights.

Overnight on Zanzibar, in the town or beach hotel named on your quote.

Day 10: Beach day

Spice island morning

Cinnamon bark, vanilla, a coconut opened in front of you, and a clear sense of why this island mattered to every dhow that ever rounded the Horn: a spice farm in the morning, the right kind of tourist morning.

The ocean is not a rumour anymore. The safari is behind you. We drive you to the beach hotel named on the quote.

Overnight on Zanzibar, in the town or beach hotel named on your quote.

Day 11: Beach day

White sand and turquoise water at Nungwi

A second still day so the safari dust is gone. Swim, read, or take a dhow at sunset if you add it. Overnight on Zanzibar.

Day 12: Departure from Zanzibar

Carved door in Stone Town

Airport or harbour transfer, which ends the trip.

When to travel

Season and routing

Year-round wildlife. December to March we can sleep toward Ndutu if calving is on. July to October we can place Serengeti nights toward the Mara River if you want crossings. The day order below is the standard loop; we only change camp locations, not the number of nights, when you send dates. The island is a beach finish in any month. Short rains come in November and long rains in April–May; lodges stay open. Spice tours and Stone Town walks run in all seasons.

Where you sleep

Choose your stay style

Four ways to travel the same parks. Pick one style for the whole safari, or mix nights — we quote what you actually want. Names below are properties we often confirm. The lodge or camp on your quote is the booking; nothing here is reserved until you approve it.

  1. Camping Safari tents, a cook, the night sounds of the park. The honest, close-to-the-ground way to safari.
  2. Mid-range En-suite lodges and tented camps we use most — a proper bed, a shower, and the game still at the door.
  3. Luxury Pools, full-service dining, the better rooms in the same parks.
  4. High-end Suite camps and private houses when the trip is built around silence and space.

Tarangire National Park

Camping

Tarangire public campsite or a private farm site on the park edge — Super Luxury tents, a cook, baobabs at first light.

Mid-range

Tarangire Safari Lodge, Tarangire Sopa Lodge — classic rooms above the river, elephants on the floodplain below.

Luxury

Tarangire Treetops, Sanctuary Swala — raised decks and a quieter night inside the park.

High-end

Karatu highlands (Manyara and crater gateway)

Camping

Pamoja Farm Camp, Kizumba Campsite, or a similar private farm campsite with a cook, tents and a hot bucket shower.

Mid-range

Farm of Dreams Lodge, Eileen’s Trees Inn, Marera Valley Lodge — en-suite rooms, gardens and a quiet night after the parks.

Luxury

Ngorongoro Farm House, Tloma Lodge, Kitela Lodge — larger rooms, a pool, and coffee-estate grounds above Karatu.

High-end

The Manor at Ngorongoro, Neptune Ngorongoro Luxury Lodge — butler service, wide views and a slower evening before the crater.

Central Serengeti

Camping

Seronera public campsite or a designated special campsite. We pitch Super Luxury tents, cook on site, and you fall asleep to hyena.

Mid-range

Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp, ThornTree Camp, Kati Kati Tented Camp — comfortable canvas, proper beds, close to the Seronera game.

High-end

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Singita Faru Faru, &Beyond Klein’s Camp — private suites, guiding extras, and the kind of silence you pay for. In calving months we quote Ndutu; in river-crossing months we quote the north.

Mid-range

Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge — rim rooms with a crater view and an early descent the next morning.

Luxury

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge — stone rooms on the rim, a short drive to the gate.

A well-run north-coast hotel with a swim-out beach, named on your quote.

Luxury

Gold Zanzibar, Zuri Zanzibar, or a similar boutique beach lodge with a reef boat on call.

High-end

&Beyond Mnemba Island, Kilindi Zanzibar, or a similar hideaway when the quote is built around the reef.

Before you book

Practical notes

  • The domestic flight from Arusha airport to Zanzibar is included. The quote may use Kilimanjaro Airport if that connection is better. Plan an afternoon island arrival; do not book an international departure from Zanzibar on the same day as the safari flight.
  • Zanzibar nights are five (days 7 through 11). Day 12 is a departure transfer.
