Arusha or Kilimanjaro to Mtwara

A private transfer to the airport for your scheduled flights via Dar es Salaam to Mtwara.

An afternoon arrival and orientation along the Mtwara waterfront, with a briefing on the region's 1982 gas discovery and what it has meant for the local economy.

Day 2

Msimbati and the Madimba pipeline corridor

A drive out to Msimbati village, where the offshore Mnazi Bay gas field comes ashore, and a coastal viewpoint over the Madimba processing plant and the start of the 542 km pipeline to Dar es Salaam — an external view, not a plant tour, for the security reasons explained above.

Day 3

Mnazi Bay–Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park

A full day on the water in the Mnazi Bay–Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park, the protected reef and mangrove system above the same gas field — a chance to see what the coastline looks like where it is fished and protected rather than industrialised.

An afternoon at Msangamkuu or Shangani beach, among the pristine white-sand coastline the region is otherwise known for.

Mtwara to Arusha or Kilimanjaro

A morning transfer to Mtwara Airport for your return flights via Dar es Salaam, which end the safari.

Runs year-round. Any TPDC or GASCO community-liaison briefing depends entirely on their approval and staff availability on your dates — we request it as soon as we have your travel window, but the coastal and marine-park days stand on their own if it cannot be arranged.

  • Tanzania's natural gas story starts here: gas was discovered offshore at Mnazi Bay in 1982 and first commercialised in 2006, feeding a 542 km pipeline to Dar es Salaam via the Madimba processing plant.
  • The Madimba gas processing plant and the offshore Mnazi Bay field are secured industrial sites with no public visitor programme — this itinerary does not take you inside an active plant. We cover the industry through a coastal viewpoint (where security allows), the Msimbati village where the gas comes ashore, and, where TPDC/GASCO approve it in advance, a community-liaison briefing.
  • Mtwara is reached by air via Dar es Salaam; there is no case for the long road transfer on a short itinerary like this one.
