From December to March the herds drop their calves on the short-grass plains around Ndutu. This five-day safari is built for that window: Tarangire first, two nights in a Ndutu camp, then the crater and home. It is not a Seronera circuit with a different title. If your dates fall outside calving, we move you onto the standard five-day lodge safari. Choose camping, mid-range, luxury or high-end. Park fees, the Land Cruiser and the Super Luxury Safaris' Guide are included.

Starts in Arusha and ends in Arusha.
Start: Arusha End: Arusha
The day starts with breakfast in Arusha. About two hours later the farms are gone and baobabs, the park gate and the river are in front of you. We do not run a transfer with a short game drive tacked on. The safari starts here, private Land Cruiser, pop-up roof, a window seat that is yours for the whole trip.
Tarangire belongs to elephants. Dry months put whole families on the Tarangire River and in the Silale swamp. Giraffe work the acacias. Lion rest in the shade of the same giants you came to photograph. We picnic so the light can tilt while you are still inside, and the herds can move toward water around you.
Your Super Luxury Safaris' Guide has already picked the quiet track for that week. You are with the Super Luxury Safaris Team, not a convoy from a distant call centre, and they still answer WhatsApp after dinner.

From December to March the herds drop their calves on the short-grass plains around Ndutu. Predators follow. Off-road driving is allowed in parts of this corner when the rules say so — that is the whole reason this itinerary exists, and it is not a Seronera trip with a different title.
We stay with the morning instead of covering empty miles. If your dates fall outside calving, we move you onto the standard northern circuit. We will not sell you a calving safari in July.

Predators follow because from December to March the herds drop their calves on the short-grass plains around Ndutu. When the rules say so, off-road driving is allowed in parts of this corner. That is the whole reason this itinerary exists. It is not a Seronera trip with a different title.
A calving safari in July is something we will not sell you. Dates outside calving move onto the standard northern circuit. We stay with the morning instead of covering empty miles.
Overnight: a Ndutu camp on the short-grass plains
Game-drive east toward the crater highlands after a last dawn on the plains. This transfer is not empty tarmac. The conservation area still holds giraffe, eland and Maasai herds on the open slopes.
If the lodge class you chose sits on the edge, the caldera is below you. Evening is on the rim or in Karatu. Sleep early. Tomorrow is the descent.
Overnight: on the Ngorongoro rim or in Karatu, depending on the lodge class you chose
Drop roughly 600 metres onto the crater floor while the grass is still cold. This is the morning that sells the northern circuit. Pack the short grass with zebra, wildebeest and buffalo. Hippo in the pools. Lion often in the open. Never guaranteed: black rhino. We never pretend they are. The fairest chance you will have is this closed caldera.
Pace it so you are still looking, not watching the clock. Picnic lunch on the floor, not a rushed snack at the gate. Climb out with time to wash off the dust. You will talk about this day for years.
When to travel
This itinerary is for December to March, when the herds calve on the Ndutu short-grass plains. From April we switch you onto the standard northern-circuit lodge safari instead.
Where you sleep
Four ways to travel the same parks. Pick one style for the whole safari, or mix nights — we quote what you actually want. Names below are properties we often confirm. The lodge or camp on your quote is the booking; nothing here is reserved until you approve it.
Tarangire public campsite or a private farm site on the park edge — Super Luxury tents, a cook, baobabs at first light.
Tarangire Safari Lodge, Tarangire Sopa Lodge — classic rooms above the river, elephants on the floodplain below.
Tarangire Treetops, Sanctuary Swala — raised decks and a quieter night inside the park.
Oliver’s Camp, Chem Chem Lodge — suite tents and private guiding when the quote is built around Tarangire.
Pamoja Farm Camp, Kizumba Campsite, or a similar private farm campsite with a cook, tents and a hot bucket shower.
Farm of Dreams Lodge, Eileen’s Trees Inn, Marera Valley Lodge — en-suite rooms, gardens and a quiet night after the parks.
Ngorongoro Farm House, Tloma Lodge, Kitela Lodge — larger rooms, a pool, and coffee-estate grounds above Karatu.
The Manor at Ngorongoro, Neptune Ngorongoro Luxury Lodge — butler service, wide views and a slower evening before the crater.
A designated Ndutu special campsite. Off-road rules in this season are why we camp here at all.
Ndutu Safari Lodge, a seasonal mid-range tented camp on the short-grass plains.
Lake Masek Tented Lodge, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp when it is positioned for calving.
&Beyond Ndutu Under Canvas, or a mobile suite camp that follows the herds — named on the quote.
Simba public campsite on the crater rim — simple wash blocks, an unmatched dawn over the caldera.
Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge — rim rooms with a crater view and an early descent the next morning.
Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge — stone rooms on the rim, a short drive to the gate.
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Melia Ngorongoro Lodge — suite-level rim stays with the caldera at your feet at dawn.
