8 Day Kenya Safari: Samburu, Nakuru, Naivasha and Masai Mara

8 days Starts Nairobi Ends Nairobi Private Super Luxury Safaris package

Eight days is the Kenya loop that actually changes habitat: Samburu’s river and northern specialists, Nakuru’s rhino and soda lake, a Naivasha night on the Rift, then the Mara for cats and, in season, the crossing. We do not pad this with a Nairobi hotel in the middle, and we do not call Naivasha a Big Five park.Super Luxury is based in Arusha. A Kenya driver-guide runs the vehicle. Lodge class camping through high-end. Optional boats, Hell’s Gate, balloons and village visits stay on their own quote lines.

Day by day

Day 1

Nairobi to Samburu

Samburu is dry-country Kenya, not a second Mara. The Ewaso Ng’iro holds the game: elephant, crocodile, and the northern specialists — reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, gerenuk. We do not promise a leopard in a sausage tree. We look along the river where they hunt.

The road from Nairobi is five and a half to seven hours via Isiolo. Arrival day is not a full safari day. Super Luxury remains your Arusha contact; a Kenya driver-guide runs the vehicle.

Overnight: in Samburu, on the Ewaso Ng’iro side

Nairobi to Samburu
Day 2

Full day in Samburu

This is the north: acacia, red dust, a river that still has water when the rest of the reserve looks empty. Samburu’s point is the species the Mara does not hold in the same way. We work the riverine forest and the open flats, picnic where the ranger allows, and we sleep here so dawn is close.

Conservancy nights across the river, when the quote uses them, add walking. The reserve itself is a game-drive park.

Day 3

Samburu to Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru is compact. You can use an afternoon properly if you do not pretend it is a five-minute viewpoint. Black and white rhino when they are on the rim, Rothschild giraffe in the forest, a soda lake that still draws flamingos when the level is right.

Tomorrow can be a morning in the park because you slept on the rim, not a dash from Nairobi.

Overnight: Lake Nakuru

Samburu to Lake Nakuru
Day 4

Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a Rift freshwater lake, not a national reserve in the Mara sense. Hippo in the shallows, fever trees, a boat if you add it to the quote. Hell’s Gate — the walking and cycling park next door — is a different ticket and a different morning. Neither is bundled unless the quote names it.

The drive from Nakuru is about an hour and a half. This is a softer night after rhino country, before the Mara road.

Overnight: Lake Naivasha, lake or cliff as named on the quote

Day 5

Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara

Cats hold territories here all year. The Masai Mara is the Kenya side of the same grassland system you may already know from the Serengeti. From August to October the herds pile onto the Mara River and the crossings become the story; the rest of the year the marsh, the resident lion and the open grass are enough.

The reserve itself does not allow walking and night drives. Conservancy nights, when we use them, add those. You travel in a private 4×4 with a Kenya driver-guide.

Overnight: in the Masai Mara, reserve or conservancy as named on the quote

Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara
Day 6

Full day in the Masai Mara

Where the cats hunted overnight decides the morning. River, marsh, conservancy gate. A second drive when the heat breaks. From August to October we aim at the Mara River when the herds are in Kenya; the rest of the year the resident lion and the open grass are the point.

A balloon is an extra, booked as its own line, not buried in a package sentence. A Maasai village visit is the same: ask, or we skip it.

Overnight: decides the morning

Full day in the Masai Mara
Day 7

Masai Mara game drives

This is not a corridor. A full Mara day means two drives and a picnic or a lodge lunch, not a loop to a viewpoint. Conservancy nights, when we use them, add walking and a night drive that the reserve itself does not allow.

Your Kenya driver-guide already knows which gate is quiet that week. The Super Luxury Safaris Team remains the Arusha contact after dinner.

Overnight: in the Masai Mara, reserve or conservancy as named on the quote

Masai Mara game drives
Day 8

Masai Mara to Nairobi

A last cool game drive, then the road back to Nairobi for a hotel or airport drop-off, which ends the safari. Do not book an international departure before 21:00 unless the quote uses a Mara–Wilson flight.

Masai Mara to Nairobi

When to travel

Season and routing

Samburu is a dry-country reserve all year. June to October and January–February are easier roads and clearer river views. November and March–May are green; some tracks soften. The northern specialists are resident, not seasonal tourists. The Mara holds resident cats all year. August to October we aim drives at the Mara River when the herds are in Kenya. January to March is green and quieter. April and May are heavy rain; we still run the trip if you accept muddy roads.

Where you sleep

Choose your stay style

Four ways to travel the same parks. Pick one style for the whole safari, or mix nights — we quote what you actually want. Names below are properties we often confirm. The lodge or camp on your quote is the booking; nothing here is reserved until you approve it.

  1. Camping Safari tents, a cook, the night sounds of the park. The honest, close-to-the-ground way to safari.
  2. Mid-range En-suite lodges and tented camps we use most — a proper bed, a shower, and the game still at the door.
  3. Luxury Pools, full-service dining, the better rooms in the same parks.
  4. High-end Suite camps and private houses when the trip is built around silence and space.

Samburu

A community or reserve-edge campsite on the Ewaso Ng’iro — basic, and close to the river at first light.

Samburu Sopa Lodge, Ashnil Samburu — reliable rooms above the riverine forest.

Luxury

Samburu Intrepids, Elephant Bedroom Camp — tents on the water, leopard a rumour in the sausage trees.

High-end

Lake Nakuru

Camping

A park or nearby private campsite, simple and close to the morning rhino drive.

Mid-range

Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, Mbweha Camp — rim or Soysambu rooms with a soda-lake view.

Luxury

The Cliff, Lake Nakuru Lodge — a quieter evening on the escarpment.

High-end

The Cliff suite rooms, or a Soysambu conservancy house when the quote calls for it.

Lake Naivasha

Camping

A lakeshore campsite — hippo after dark, a boat only if you add it.

Mid-range

Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge, or a similar fever-tree lodge named on the quote.

Luxury

Enashipai, Great Rift Valley Lodge — cliff or lake rooms after Nakuru.

High-end

Kiangazi House, or a private Naivasha house when the Rift night is the point of the quote.

Masai Mara

Mid-range
